Your vision is precious. At Ferrier & Mackinnon, the health of your and your family’s eyes is our top priority. As an established premier independent Optician your vision care is in excellent hands. By investing in the latest eye-care technologies throughout the practices, we ensure your eye examination is performed to the highest standard possible.
Expert Eye Examination
In Scotland, everybody who is a UK resident is entitled to a free NHS eye examination.
If you don’t qualify, our standard examination fee is £50. Most people will be eligible, but if you’re not sure just contact us and we’ll be happy to help. Our experienced Optometrists will typically spend 30 to 40 minutes to make sure your eyes are healthy
We are one of the first practices to offer OCT – Optical Coherence Tomography. This enhanced eye scan is available for just £10.
As well as including all tests to check your sight and to see if any vision correction is required (e.g. spectacles, contact lenses) our optometrists also check for any potential eye disease like Glaucoma, Cataract, and Macular Degeneration to name a few.
Our practice equipment includes a digital retinal camera which allows us to take photographs of the inside of your eyes so even small abnormalities can be detected, recorded and compared in future checks. Combining this with modern examination techniques we can ensure all is done to help prevent unnecessary deterioration to your sight and eye health. Other tests we will carry out include binocular assessment (how well the eyes work together), peripheral visual field analysis and intraocular pressure measurement.
Our optician will always explain the results of the various assessments and you will be given every opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
